Program for Ontario Investors

Under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program, the Entrepreneur stream is the business stream option (OINP).

The Entrepreneur stream is accessible to foreign nationals (and up to one foreign national business partner) who desire to establish a new permanent business or purchase an existing firm in Ontario with the intention of profiting from active revenue generated by the sale of goods/services. Entrepreneurs who successfully establish their businesses in Ontario may be nominated for permanent residence status under this program.

The qualifying conditions are as follows:

New Company:

  • Experience: At least two years of full-time company experience (as an owner or senior manager) in the previous five years is required.
  • Minimum Net Worth: CAD $400,000 – $800,000, depending on region and business kind;
  • Minimum Investment: $200,000-$600,000, depending on region and kind of business, with a minimum ownership of 33.3%;
  • Depending on the location and type of company, provide at least 1-2 full-time, permanent employment for Canadian citizens or permanent residents; and
  • Have a minimum language requirement in English or French of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 4 or equivalent.
  • All of the requirements listed above in the New Business section;
  • The existing business must have been in continuous operation by the same owner or group of owners for the previous 60 months before purchase;
  • The purchase must completely transfer ownership from the previous owner(s) to you, your Business Partner (if applicable), and/or your third-party investor(s) (if applicable);

The Entrepreneur Stream does not allow buy-and-hold company strategies with no intention of growing the firm;
